Andy Robertson’s shoulder injury while serving with Scotland’s national team appears to have delivered Liverpool a major injury blow.
Just before halftime of the Euro qualifier on Thursday night, the left-back for the Reds collided with Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simon.
When Simon dropped the ball and it fell directly on Robertson’s shoulder, Robertson was in the middle of leaping for the ball inside the area.
The 29-year-old exited the field while holding his injured arm in a sling.
The player will now have to wait anxiously to learn the full extent of the damage, hoping that it is not a dislocated shoulder, which would certainly signal the end of his playing career till Christmas.
Liverpool would find out how effective Kostas Tsimikas is as a backup if Robertson is out for a long time.
In the summer, Liverpool considered adding a left-sided center-back to the lineup to challenge Robertson, but decided against it and instead put all of their efforts on the midfield.
Tsimikas, on the other hand, only recently received a new contract. The Greek is not, however, a perfect alternative for the hybrid back three system.
Robertson started 44 games last season, making him one of the most used players for both club and nation.
He has played the entire 90 minutes in each of Scotland’s past seven games and every minute of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign this year.
Robertson recently missed four Liverpool games due to a knee problem a year ago.
