Rangers use are now closing in on the appointment of Belgian coach Philippe Clement as their new manager, according to Alan Nixon.
The newspaper journalist, taking to his official Patreon account (13 October) has shared that an announcement could be made over the weekend with terms and budget to now be agreed.
It is believed that Clement’s European pedigree has given him the edge over alternative managerial candidate Kevin Muscat with the former Monaco coach meeting the Rangers bosses twice.
It certainly seems as if Rangers have now finally made a breakthrough in their managerial search and have now identified their preferred Michael Beale successor at Ibrox, a process which has taken 11 days since his sacking (1 October).
The next person in the dugout needs to be there for the long haul if the club are to have any chance of success on the pitch and it seems as if John Bennett and James Bisgrove have chosen Clement to be that man.
The Belgian coach may well be an unknown quantity to the Ibrox support but he’s a manager who has picked up favourable reputations over in his native country and France and it’s a managerial risk that could reap considerable benefits in the long haul.
The pressure is certainly on for the Belgian as soon he walks in through the door and whether he can make the swift impact the club needs to fire on all cylinders again, remains to be seen.
However, the 49-year-old is certainly an intriguing name and can count himself unlucky to be sacked by Monaco this summer after their failure to reach the Champions League but this Ibrox challenge is one he will grab with both hands.
An appointment which should certainly bring intrigue and anticipation from within the Rangers fanbase.
