After leaving Liverpool permanently more than 15 months ago, Takumi Minamino has expressed some heartfelt sentiments regarding Anfield.
After spending two and a half seasons with the club, the attacker left for Monaco last summer for a cost of approximately £15.5 million.
During that time, which included six months spent on loan at Southampton in 2020–21, Minamino made a total of 55 appearances for the Reds on Merseyside.
Although his Liverpool career fell short of his expectations, Minamino has nonetheless spoken highly of his time at Anfield, calling it one of the “best stadiums in the world.”
For me, it was a wonderful experience. It was the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup that we won, Minamino recalled in an interview with SNTV that was carried by TNT Sports.
“I believe that Anfield Stadium is one of the best stadiums in the world.”
And this atmosphere is incredible if you score as a Liverpool player in that stadium. I’ll never forget that feeling, I’m sure.
For the Reds, Minamino scored 14 goals in all competitions despite frequently having to fill in as a bench player above the first-choice forwards in the pecking order.
In the League Cup victory over Leicester in December 2021, the Japanese international scored deep into injury time to force a penalty shootout that the Reds went on to win. This may have been his finest moment with the club.
He joined the team from RB Salzburg after making an impression and scoring for the Austrian team in Liverpool’s thrilling 4-3 victory.
He was the first Japanese player to ever play for the club after his £7 million transfer, and Wataru Endo from Stuttgart joined him earlier this summer.
