Two of Liverpool’s young players competed against one another in an international match between England and Wales, and another made a solid case for the starting spot at the forthcoming World Cup.
As they competed against one other for England U19s and Wales U19s, respectively, Calum Scanlon and Lewis Koumas transitioned from being teammates to rivals.
Thankfully, once the points were split and the game ended 1-1, they can still be friends.
In the Welsh attack’s first phase, Koumas faced off against Scanlon in the England defense but was unable to score.
However, after 55 minutes, Koumas’ teammate Ben Lloyd scored, but the visitors couldn’t hang out as Millwall’s Romain Vincelot scored.
When Wales’ under-21 team played the Czech Republic, they also drew 1-1, and Liverpool provided two additional young players for Tom Hill and Owen Beck.
Beck, who has been playing regularly on loan for Dundee this season and was replaced after 64 minutes as Hill was, continued to progress as a player.
Jayden Danns, a gifted young forward for the Reds, started in a strong England under-18 team that defeated Morocco 1-0 in advance of the under-17 World Cup.
If Danns keeps playing as brilliantly as he has for Liverpool this season, he will be a lock for the team. The competition will take place in Indonesia and begin in November.
Trent Kone-Doherty has also played; he logged 72 minutes in the Republic of Ireland’s 3-0 victory over the Faroe Islands.
Six goals have now been scored by the 17-year-old for Liverpool this season in eight appearances.
