Jorg Schmadtke, Liverpool’s sports director, is still actively connected with the team despite recent links to a prospective replacement being dismissed by “senior Anfield figures.”
Back in May, Schmadtke was hired on an interim basis with a one-year contract that allowed for an early termination by either party after three months.
Although the German has already outlasted that time frame, there are still concerns about the position’s long-term viability.
The Reds are “looking into” the prospect of hiring Max Eberl for the position; he resigned from his position as sporting director at RB Leipzig last month, according to a report from Bild last week.
Since then, according to James Pearce of The Athletic, the club has “played down” the accusations, so there is not much to take from them.
Despite the uncertainty, Pearce argues that Schmadtke is still a crucial component of the club’s transfer strategy. He says: “All parties promised to sit down after the transfer market closed to examine the summer and how the arrangement was working out.
After being closely connected to a move to Bayern Munich, Eberl was recently fired from his position as managing director for sport at the Bundesliga club owing to “his failure to commit to the club.”
Although it is presently unknown how long Schmadtke will likely stay at Liverpool, it appears that his presence behind the scenes is still felt.

Although Eberl’s connections to the German champions may eventually bear fruit, Schmadtke is currently in charge of the Reds’ transfer discussions.
