Part one of John Aldridge’s most recent Liverpool column explores the possibility of Leroy Sane taking the place of Mohamed Salah.
Leroy Sane has been mentioned as a potential Mohamed Salah successor at Liverpool in recent days.
If Salah leaves, which is likely given his contract status and other factors, Liverpool must determine which right-sided player is the best at scoring 20 goals or more per season while also setting up goals for others. You must go and retrieve them.
Young Ben Doak has years left and has the potential to be a future star, but it has to be someone who is at the height of their powers at 26 or 27, who has already been there and done that.
Due to the money we will be receiving for Mo, whoever it is will be expensive. Jurgen Klopp has time to come up with a solution and is likely to have anticipated this at some stage. Mo most likely desires to end his playing career as the best Muslim on the planet in a Muslim nation. Whatever it takes, we just need to find the greatest deal for the club and make sure we find someone who shares our values. Any agreement for Mo would pay for that cost.
Sane is an excellent player and undeniably talented. The only question is if he could average more than 20 goals per season. He is still only 27, which is a respectable age, but it is debatable whether he could match Mo’s stats. In order to defeat City in the league right now, you must score 90 goals or more.
