Andy Robertson’s injury layoff has no set timetable, but Scotland manager Steve Clarke has said he is doubtful whether the Liverpool defender will be ready for the November international matches after sustaining a major shoulder injury.
Robertson, who has led the Tartan Army to consecutive appearances in the European Championship finals, was taken off at the end of the first half of Thursday’s 2-0 loss to Spain after colliding awkwardly with goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Robertson later left Scotland’s camp on Friday and returned to Liverpool for a scan, so it appears that he won’t play against Everton on Saturday in the Merseyside derby.
Clarke stated: “As always with injured players, we send them back to their club; Andy’s gone back to Liverpool,” prior to Scotland’s upcoming exhibition game against France. His injury will be handled by Liverpool. Liverpool will address the shoulder issue, which is obvious.
If Robertson is healthy for Scotland’s final set of qualifying matches against Georgia and Norway in November, that’s excellent, Clarke said in response to the question. If he isn’t ready for next month, maybe he will be ready for his club as soon as possible.
For seven games in the Premier League, Europa League, and League Cup, Liverpool might be without their first-choice left-back if Robertson is unable to recover from his injury in time for the November international break.
The 29-year-old would therefore have a little window of time to demonstrate his fitness before the Reds’ November 25 trip to Manchester City.
