Wolves took a very good point against Newcastle United on Saturday night at Molineux, and there was another top performance from Toti Gomes at the back.
Gary O’Neil’s side drew 2-2 with the Magpies at Molineux.
It was a very entertaining game, with the conditions really adding to the occasion.
Wolves put in a really good performance against a tough side to play against, and showed good character to come from behind twice.
Replays showed the South Korean did not actually kick the defender, who initiated contact before going to ground.
Wolves might have won the game had things gone their way, but a point was satisfactory.
One man who played a key role in Wolves getting that point was Toti, whose stock continues to rise…
Toti started for Wolves again yesterday, lining up on the left of a back three.
That system kind of became a back four at times, with Toti playing left-back and Rayan Ait-Nouri playing higher up as more of a left winger.
But whatever positions Toti took up, he looked solid as per usual.
The 24-year-old used the ball well, and his physicality was most welcome against a side like Newcastle.
And Toti showed that he is not just about being a solid defender.
He was extremely impressive on the second Wolves goal, as he danced between two Newcastle players before slipping in Hwang.
Since Toti came into the starting XI in the Premier League against Manchester City, Wolves have not lost a game.
It’s two wins and two draws with him starting, and the impact he’s had has been undeniable.
Toti makes Wolves more solid, but his inclusion in the team – resulting in a formation change – has not really come at the cost of creativity.
He is just a top player, and that dribble before playing in Hwang shows there is actually much more to him than meets the eye.
