Everyone is speculating about what will happen at the top of the 2024 NFL Draft when Caleb Williams of USC selects the Chicago Bears at the first pick. There is a glut of elite quarterback talent and several clubs who need a new signal-caller.
Although mock drafts are being shuffled about a lot, one draft insider thinks he knows what could happen at the third pick.
A suggestion regarding the New England Patriots’ preference for LSU Heisman winner Jayden Daniels over UNC’s Drake Maye was put forth to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah. He stated, “If Jayden was there at three, the thought was ‘Okay, New England takes Jayden.'” If Jayden scores two and then unexpectedly scores three, we might be in business.
Jeremiah likened this situation to another loaded quarterback class from 2018, when the Patriots might be looking for a trade if Daniels goes second, as they might not be in love with Drake Maye. The Cleveland Browns selected Baker Mayfield first overall that year because they weren’t in love with Josh Allen.
For months, Daniels and Maye seemed to be the unanimous choices at Nos. 2 and 3, but it’s still uncertain which order they’ll go.
The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings are two of the clubs most likely to go up if the Pats opt to move down, according to Jeremiah, as both have serious quarterbacking concerns.
We can’t wait to watch this all come to life on stage as the draft approaches and the theories grow more and more intense every day.
