Updates – Nick kyrgios to retire from tennis after the Australian open
Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has hinted that his first-round loss at the 2025 Australian Open may mark his final singles appearance at Melbourne Park. The 29-year-old was defeated in straight sets by Britain’s Jacob Fearnley, with scores of 7-6(3), 6-3, 7-6(2).
Kyrgios, who has been battling an abdominal strain, expressed doubts about his future in singles play at the Australian Open. He stated, “I can’t see myself playing singles here again,” citing physical discomfort and a lack of enjoyment due to pain.
Despite his singles exit, Kyrgios plans to continue competing in doubles alongside his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis. The duo previously clinched the Australian Open men’s doubles title in 2022 and are set to participate in this year’s tournament.
Reflecting on his career, Kyrgios expressed no regrets, emphasizing his commitment to authenticity and enjoyment on the court. He remarked, “I’ve always tried to be true to myself and have fun.”
Kyrgios’s potential retirement from singles at the Australian Open marks a significant moment in his career, highlighting the physical and mental challenges athletes face at the highest levels of competition.
