Updates -Roki Sasaki to los Angeles Dodgers
Japanese pitching sensation Roki Sasaki is reportedly nearing a decision to join the Los Angeles Dodgers, narrowing his Major League Baseball (MLB) options to the Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays. This development follows the elimination of the San Diego Padres from contention.
Sasaki, 23, has garnered significant attention due to his exceptional performances in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) with the Chiba Lotte Marines. Notably, he pitched a perfect game in 2022, recording 19 strikeouts, and delivered standout performances during the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
As Sasaki is under 25, he is subject to MLB’s international bonus pool restrictions. The Blue Jays have recently bolstered their international bonus pool by acquiring additional funds, potentially giving them more than $8 million to $10 million for the signing.
The Dodgers have been proactive in their pursuit, with pitcher Tyler Glasnow actively recruiting Sasaki. Dodgers President Andrew Friedman has emphasized Sasaki as a priority for the team.
Sasaki has until January 23 to finalize his decision; otherwise, he will return to the Chiba Lotte Marines for the 2025 season.
The potential addition of Sasaki to the Dodgers’ roster is highly anticipated, as it would bolster their pitching rotation and bring a dynamic talent to Major League Baseball.
