**Islanders Stay Hot, Edge Lightning 3-2 in Overtime Thriller**

The New York Islanders continued their impressive run of form, extending their winning streak with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night. The Islanders, who have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL, showcased their resilience once again, battling back to secure the extra point against a formidable Lightning squad.

### **Late Drama in Tampa**

The Islanders entered the game riding high on momentum, having won their previous contests with strong defensive play and timely scoring. Against the Lightning, they faced a stiff challenge, with Tampa Bay pressing hard to snap New York’s streak.

Tampa Bay struck first in the opening period, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. Nikita Kucherov, the NHL’s leading scorer, wasted no time making an impact, firing a one-timer past Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead. The Islanders responded quickly, however, as Bo Horvat netted his 18th goal of the season off a slick pass from Mathew Barzal, leveling the game at 1-1 before the first intermission.

The second period saw both teams settle into a defensive rhythm, with Sorokin and Lightning netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy putting on a goaltending clinic. The Islanders had several quality scoring chances, including a near miss from Brock Nelson on a breakaway, but Vasilevskiy stood tall. On the other end, Sorokin made crucial stops, denying Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point on consecutive shifts.

In the third period, the intensity ramped up as both teams sought the go-ahead goal. The Islanders broke the deadlock midway through the frame when Jean-Gabriel Pageau redirected a Noah Dobson shot past Vasilevskiy, giving New York a 2-1 lead. The Lightning, known for their late-game heroics, responded with just under two minutes left in regulation. Stamkos, left open in the slot, ripped a shot past Sorokin, sending the game into overtime with the score tied at 2-2.

### **Islanders Seal the Deal in OT**

Overtime belonged to the Islanders, who wasted little time securing the win. Less than a minute into the extra frame, Barzal took control of the puck in the neutral zone, skated past a Lightning defender, and fed Horvat, who buried the game-winning goal with a slick wrist shot over Vasilevskiy’s blocker.

The goal not only extended the Islanders’ unbeaten streak but also highlighted their ability to win close games against top-tier opponents. Horvat’s heroics capped off a two-goal performance, while Sorokin’s 35-save effort was instrumental in keeping Tampa Bay’s high-powered offense at bay.

### **Islanders’ Momentum Continues**

With this victory, the Islanders remain one of the NHL’s hottest teams, climbing up the standings in the Metropolitan Division. Their balanced attack, strong goaltending, and ability to perform under pressure have been key to their recent success.

The Lightning, despite the loss, continue to fight for positioning in the Eastern Conference playoff race. With a veteran core and plenty of offensive firepower, Tampa Bay remains a formidable opponent moving forward.

The Islanders will look to extend their streak when they face their next challenge later this week, while the Lightning will aim to bounce back in their upcoming matchup.
