Paul George Relieved Lakers Missed on Mark Williams, Showers Praise on Luka Dončić
LA Clippers star Paul George recently shared his thoughts on the Los Angeles Lakers’ failed trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams, expressing relief that the move didn’t materialize. On a recent episode of his Podcast P with Paul George, the Clippers forward said, “Thank God that trade didn’t go through.”
The Lakers had reportedly explored a deal to acquire Williams before the trade deadline, aiming to bolster their frontcourt. However, negotiations fell apart, leaving LA without a major addition. George, a longtime rival of the Lakers, seemed pleased that they missed out on acquiring the young, promising center. Williams, known for his shot-blocking and rebounding, could have provided the Lakers with much-needed interior defense alongside Anthony Davis.
While discussing the NBA landscape, George also took the opportunity to praise Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Dončić, calling him one of the most skilled players in the league. He highlighted Dončić’s ability to control the pace of the game, make difficult shots, and elevate his teammates.
“Luka is just special, man. The way he plays, the way he controls the game—he’s just different. You can’t speed him up, and he makes everyone around him better,” George said.
The Clippers and Mavericks have had several intense playoff battles in recent years, with Dončić often delivering standout performances against George and Kawhi Leonard. Despite being competitors, George clearly respects Dončić’s talent and impact on the game.
As the Western Conference playoff race heats up, both the Lakers and Mavericks remain key contenders. While the Lakers missed out on Williams, they’ll have to rely on their current roster to make a deep postseason push. Meanwhile, Dončić continues to prove why he’s one of the NBA’s brightest stars.
