Lakers In Talks For Former DPOY, Other Excellent 3-And-D Wings
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly engaging in active trade and free-agent discussions to bolster their roster with elite defensive talent and three-point shooting. According to multiple league sources, the team has shown significant interest in acquiring a former NBA Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY), along with several other highly regarded 3-and-D wings.
The Lakers, coming off another underwhelming playoff run, are clearly focused on reshaping their roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis. A former DPOY—possibly players like Marcus Smart or Draymond Green—would add much-needed defensive leadership and tenacity on the perimeter, something the team sorely lacked in the 2024 postseason.
In addition to the DPOY target, the front office is reportedly monitoring players such as Dorian Finney-Smith, Bruce Brown, and Caleb Martin—all wings known for their ability to defend multiple positions while spacing the floor.
