Mike Vrabel makes clear Stefon Diggs rumors won’t rattle Patriots’ start
The New England Patriots are preparing for the 2025 season under new head coach Mike Vrabel, and while the buzz around the league has been dominated by rumors about wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ future, Vrabel has made it clear that the chatter won’t derail his team’s focus.
Reports over the past week have suggested that Diggs, who was traded to the Houston Texans this past offseason, may be unhappy in his new role and could once again be on the move. With the Patriots still evaluating their receiving corps, speculation naturally swirled that New England might be a landing spot.
Vrabel, however, was quick to shut down any notion that outside noise would become a distraction for his young roster. “We’re focused on the players in this building,” Vrabel told reporters after practice. “There’s always going to be rumors in this league, especially about talented guys like Stefon. But our job is to build trust, build consistency, and get ready for Week 1.”
The Patriots, coming off a difficult 2024 campaign, have spent the offseason reshaping their offense. Rookie quarterback Drake Maye has shown steady progress in camp, while veteran additions at tight end and offensive line are expected to give the unit more stability. Vrabel has emphasized accountability and toughness, leaning on the culture that defined his playing days in New England.
When asked if he had spoken directly with Diggs, Vrabel brushed it aside. “I’ve got enough to worry about with our guys,” he said. “If we’re doing our jobs right, we’ll create opportunities for the receivers we have. That’s where the focus stays.”
Patriots veterans echoed that sentiment, with center David Andrews noting that Vrabel has instilled a no-nonsense approach. “We’re not worried about rumors. We’re worried about execution,” Andrews said.
For now, the Diggs talk remains just that—talk. Vrabel’s message is clear: the Patriots are turning the page, not chasing headlines.
