Breaking News: Patriots’ Rookie RB TreVeyon Henderson Gets Bad Depth Chart News for Week 1
The New England Patriots’ highly touted rookie running back, TreVeyon Henderson, will have to wait for his chance to shine under the bright lights of the NFL. According to the team’s official Week 1 depth chart, Henderson has been listed lower than many expected, signaling that his role in the season opener will be limited.
Henderson, a standout at Ohio State and the Patriots’ third-round pick in April’s draft, entered training camp with buzz surrounding his explosiveness and versatility. Many fans and analysts thought he could immediately push for carries behind veteran starter Rhamondre Stevenson. However, the depth chart suggests New England will lean more on Stevenson and newly signed veteran depth, leaving Henderson as the third or even fourth option in the backfield rotation.
While the move may disappoint those eager to see Henderson’s NFL debut in a prominent role, it isn’t entirely unexpected. Bill Belichick and the Patriots’ coaching staff are historically conservative when it comes to rookies, particularly at running back—a position that demands not just speed and vision, but also pass protection and ball security. Henderson has shown flashes of brilliance in preseason action, but his limited reps in crucial situations hinted at the coaching staff’s decision.
For Henderson, patience will be key. The NFL season is long, and injuries, performance swings, and matchup-specific game plans often shuffle depth charts quickly. If he continues to develop in practice and earn the staff’s trust, his opportunities could expand as the year progresses.
Still, for Week 1, it’s clear the Patriots will prioritize experience in the backfield. Henderson’s time will come, but for now, fans may need to wait a little longer before seeing the rookie become a central part of New England’s offense.
