Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer has expressed strong confidence in his alma mater’s prospects, predicting that the team will secure the national championship if they maintain their current form. Meyer’s assertion follows Ohio State’s impressive performances in the College Football Playoff (CFP), notably their decisive 41-21 victory over top-seeded Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Meyer stated, “If Team-A shows up, this will be a wrap. Ohio State will lift the gold trophy. If the best roster in the country plays like the best roster in the country, they’ll be national champs in a few weeks.”

Ohio State’s recent successes have been attributed to a combination of strategic adjustments and standout individual performances. The team’s offense has been particularly potent, with quarterback Will Howard and freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith playing pivotal roles. Smith’s emergence as a reliable target has added a new dimension to the Buckeyes’ passing game, making them a formidable opponent for any defense.

The Buckeyes are set to face the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl Classic on January 10. Texas, known for having one of the best defensive lines in college football, presents a significant challenge. Meyer acknowledged this, noting that the matchup could be closely contested due to Texas’ defensive strengths.

Despite the challenges ahead, Ohio State enters the semifinal as a favorite, with betting odds reflecting confidence in their ability to advance. FanDuel lists Ohio State as the favorite to win the national championship at +110, underscoring the high expectations placed on the team.

Meyer’s confidence in Ohio State is rooted in his intimate knowledge of the program and its capabilities. During his tenure as head coach from 2012 to 2018, Meyer led the Buckeyes to a national championship in 2014, instilling a culture of excellence that continues to influence the team’s performance.

Current head coach Ryan Day has built upon this foundation, guiding Ohio State to a 12-1 record this season and demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity. The team’s ability to rebound from setbacks and deliver commanding performances in high-stakes games has been a testament to Day’s leadership and the players’ commitment.

As the Buckeyes prepare for their upcoming matchup against Texas, the focus remains on execution and consistency. Meyer’s assertion that Ohio State possesses the nation’s best roster is a sentiment echoed by many analysts, but translating potential into victory requires sustained effort and concentration.

The anticipation surrounding Ohio State’s pursuit of the national championship is palpable. With a roster brimming with talent and a legacy of success, the Buckeyes are poised to make a significant impact in the concluding stages of the CFP. If they continue to perform at their current level, as Meyer suggests, Ohio State may well be on the cusp of adding another national title to their storied history.
