Red Sox Evaluating Rotation, First Base Markets

Red Sox Evaluating Rotation, First Base Markets
As the 2025 MLB season progresses, the Boston Red Sox front office is actively evaluating both the starting rotation and first base markets ahead of the trade deadline. With postseason contention still within reach, the team is exploring ways to shore up key positions that have underperformed or been hit by injury.
On the pitching front, the rotation has shown flashes of promise but lacks consistency. Brayan Bello remains a cornerstone, but the back end has struggled with both effectiveness and durability. The front office is reportedly monitoring available starting pitchers, with a focus on mid-rotation arms who could provide stability without requiring a major prospect haul.
At first base, Boston has yet to find a consistent offensive presence. While Triston Casas remains sidelined, the team has relied on a mix of temporary solutions. If Casas’ return is delayed or uncertain, a veteran bat at first could help solidify the lineup and offer more production in the middle of the order.
Red Sox management is weighing short-term upgrades versus long-term impact, mindful of their farm system’s progress. With strong performances from some key young players and a competitive AL East, a few calculated moves could keep the Red Sox in the postseason picture.
