Moises Caicedo has had his sights set on a Brighton exit for a long, long time.
The Ecuador international came close to departing the Amex for Arsenal in January, only for the Seagulls to reject two bids with the second worth £70m. The 21-year-old would release a statement on social media begging the club to let him leave, only to sign an improved contract in March after such pleas were ignored.
Chelsea were also interested at the time and have been courting him ever since, resulting in four rejected bids, with the highest totalling £80m, as Brighton held out for £100m.
With the Seagulls setting a midnight deadline for acceptable bids to be made on Thursday, the Londoners would eventually agree to pay that fee. However, the only problem for them was by this point Brighton had decided to sell to the highest bidder and Liverpool had entered the conversation with an £110m offer.
