Liverpool will face Newcastle in the Premier League next Sunday and manager Eddie Howe has reacted to Jurgen Klopp comments.
Eddie Howe has agreed with Jurgen Klopp’s suggestion that one particular Premier League rule change has impacted Newcastle United more than other clubs.
Several new rules were introduced by the Premier League ahead of the current campaign, with time-wasting and surrounding referees high on the agenda, in a bid to improve the overall product of the division.
One of the new formats for clubs to follow relates to only one coach now being allowed in the technical area at any one time, putting an end to Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall barking out instructions in unison from the sidelines.
Providing his thoughts on this change last week, Klopp told reporters: “I think it is only a problem for one team: Newcastle. Sorry!”
Asked today if he had heard Klopp’s remarks regarding Newcastle, Howe today responded: “I think I heard about them through various sources.
“I think the rules do impact us slightly more than other teams, just because of how we’ve worked historically. This hasn’t been a new thing for me and Jason, this has been for…I’ve forgotten how many years I’ve been in management
“It’s not something we’ve just done. I didn’t find it too bad last week, I think we dovetailed in and out of the area. It worked, we talked.”
Newcastle host Liverpool in the Premier League next Sunday, with the Reds looking to produce a repeat of their 2-0 win at St James’ Park of last term. Klopp’s side were the only team in the Premier League to complete the double over the Magpies in 2022/23.
