In the competition to sign Liverpool defender Luke Chambers on loan, Swansea has joined Bayer Leverkusen.
The 19-year-old is drawing interest from a number of clubs and is anticipated to leave Anfield this summer on a loan basis.
The teenage defender’s transfer to Leverkusen, overseen by Reds veteran Xabi Alonso, had previously been predicted to happen.
This Is Anfield is aware that Swansea, a Championship team, will now present them with additional opposition.
Chambers concluded the year with 14 league appearances after spending the second half of the year on loan at Scottish Premiership team Kilmarnock.
To aid Killie in avoiding relegation, the Preston-born defender even declined a call-up to the England U20 World Cup squad.
Chambers is now seen to be prepared to advance to a more competitive league in order to continue his growth after that positive experience.
However, it is still unclear whether it will be the Championship or the Bundesliga, both of which have recently shown to be excellent settings for young English talent.
Chambers was not included in the Liverpool team for the preseason tours of Germany and Asia this summer because it was believed that a loan transfer was about to occur.
He had, however, already proven himself to Jurgen Klopp during the post-World Cup training camp in Dubai the previous year.
Luke Chambers, according to Klopp, “has everything for a center back, aside from a head for the game,” the manager said of the teenager at the time to LFCTV.
