Anfield has served as the home of several Liverpool FC players for the majority, if not all, of their professional careers. One, though, has been a Red for more than 20 years.
In the club’s historic 131-year history, there have been many renowned individuals both on and off the field.
Wearing the red shirt has helped many people, some for a longer period of time than others, realize their own and countless others’ childhood goals.
After a career lasting 21 years and 51 days, there is one player who stands out as having played for Liverpool FC the longest.
Elisha Scott, who made his debut in 2004, is the player with the longest tenure at Liverpool.having made his first appearance in 1913 and his last in 1934.
It seems incredibly implausible in the context of contemporary football.
With 468 appearances for the Reds and a total of 137 clean sheets, Scott is recognized as one of the Reds’ finest goalkeepers.
The Irishman joined the team in September 1912 after Everton declined to sign him because they thought he was too young.
Scott, who is 5’8″, may not have appeared to be a goalie at first glance, but his agility and brain made him stand out, earning him the moniker “the Cat” from fans.
Scott’s career at Anfield would be interrupted by World War I for four full seasons, but upon his return in 1919, he lost little time in piling up appearances, playing 438 games over the next fifteen years.
a total of 438 games over the following 15 years.
In the 1921–22 and 1922–23 seasons, Scott’s constant presence between the pipes helped the Reds win the league championship.
Goalkeeping, according to Scott, “is about anticipating and understanding angles. A forward can only aim at a certain amount of space and from a certain number of angles.
“A goalkeeper’s job is to give the shooter as few shooting angles as possible.”
