Kostas Tsimikas has extended his contract with Liverpool by signing a new long-term agreement.
The international Greek player joined the team in the summer of 2020, filling in admirably for Andy Robertson at left-back.
He played a total of 61 times in his first three seasons, with the majority of his games coming in cup matches rather than the Premier League.
Despite the defender’s infrequent playing time, Liverpool has decided to keep Tsimikas on board and has announced that he has signed a new long-term contract that is expected to continue until 2027.
The international player from Greece said on the official website of Liverpool FC: “This keeps me totally motivated for the rest. As I’ve stated in countless interviews, our team has a ton of goals that we must all work toward, and I wanted to be a part of it from the very beginning.
The 27-year-old’s contract, which was originally valid until 2025, has now been extended.
Due to his playing time and the change in formations that call for different attributes from the left-sided defense, Tsimikas’ future was a matter of discussion over the summer.
Tsimikas, a well-liked teammate, scored the crucial penalty in the FA Cup final shootout against Chelsea in 2022 to seal the victory for Liverpool.
Tsimikas has so far only started one game in 2023–24 and has sat on the bench for all of the Reds’ Premier League games.
Since Klopp plans to rotate his team, it is anticipated that the majority of his appearances this season will occur in the Europa League and the early rounds of the domestic cup tournaments.
Given Liverpool’s needs and system changes, a new deal for Tsimikas is a bit of a surprise, but it at least preserves his value going ahead.
