Due to a shoulder injury, Andy Robertson may miss some time, and Luke Chambers, who just made his debut for Liverpool, may benefit from his absence.
While representing Scotland, Liverpool’s left back appeared to dislocate his shoulder; depending on the severity, the prognosis ranged from weeks to months.
Naturally, the aim is that the scans are as good as they can be and that it will only take a few weeks to manage without him. At that point, Kostas Tsimikas will have to step up.
Tsimikas has never started more than two consecutive Premier League games, but if Robertson is down for a month, for instance, he will be required to start four straight league games.
Chambers enters the debate at this point. To keep his players motivated and fresh, Jurgen Klopp has freely switched up his lineup from midweek to the weekend.
Regardless of how long Robertson will be out, Tsimikas’ role will shift as a result, and Chambers, the only other left-back specialist in the senior set-up, will gain from this.
The 19-year-old earned his debut against Leicester in the dying seconds last month, and Klopp will keep him in mind as he plans the upcoming weeks, which include Europa League and League Cup action in addition to league play.
Injuries prevented Chambers from joining Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen for the 2023–24 season, despite his successful loan stint at Kilmarnock the previous year.
He was unable to train with Klopp’s team during preseason as a result, but the young player, who can also play center back, will hopefully be available in the coming weeks.
He was not used as a substitute in Thursday’s loss to Romania while on international duty with England’s under-20 team, which may have pleased Klopp as he wants the rest of his players to come back undamaged.
