In front of more than 23,000 spectators, Liverpool failed to score for the third straight time in the women’s Anfield Merseyside derby, and they suffered their first WSL loss of the year.

Women’s Super League (3), Anfield, October 15, 2023, Liverpool Women 0-1 Everton Women

Goals: 31′ Finnigan

The Reds’ most recent victory over Everton occurred in 2019, and their heartbreaking 1-0 loss to the Blues extended their winless streak.

A challenge between Lucy Hope and Missy Bo Kearns ended with Lucy Hope suffering serious injuries just seconds after the game’s kickoff.

Kearns believed she had given Liverpool the lead just after the restart, but the goal was disallowed due to an incredibly close call on offside.
Three minutes later, Ceri Holland’s left-footed attempt went off the underside of the bar, bounced on the line, and was scrambled away, giving the Reds another narrow loss.

After the first flurry of activity, the match calmed down and Everton started to manufacture opportunities. They scored the game’s sole goal after 30 minutes due to a Megan Finnigan header from a corner, which goalkeeper Rachael Laws will be upset to allow.

The majority of the away fans were seated in the lower Kop, while the rest of the stand booed them loudly for their celebrations.

A quadruple substitution by Beard at the hour mark attempted to alter the situation, and it partially succeeded. The vibrant Mia Enderby.
As the game neared its conclusion, it became more frenzied, and Everton came within five minutes of scoring by hitting the crossbar.

Liverpool then increased the pressure, coming very near on a few occasions, and the audience grew as it was revealed that there would be six minutes of additional time.

However, Natasha Flint’s magnificent left-footed attempt across goal that agonizingly grazed the crossbar prevented them from making amends.

Jenna Clark won the game’s MVP award.

Laws, Koivisto (Matthews 61), Fisk, Bonner (Flint 61), Clark, Hinds; Nagano, Hobinger, Holland; Kearns (Enderby 61); Haug (Lawley 61); are all members of the Liverpool Women’s team.

Micah, Parry, Taylor, Lundgaard, and Daniels were not substitutes.
