An irrational fan’s reaction to Leslie Frazier’s Dolphins interview was
Leslie Frazier, the associate head coach and former defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, in January 2023.
Leslie Frazier, the former defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills, took a leave of absence for the 2023 NFL season, but he intends to return.
Frazier is willing to continue in his previous position even though he wants to rejoin the league as a head coach. Although they picked Jim Harbaugh, the Los Angeles Chargers interviewed Frazier to be their next head coach. Although Frazier had an interview to be the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders as well, Antonio Pierce was chosen by the team.
On Monday, January 29, though, Frazier was presented with a new opportunity, and it involved the Bills’ AFC East foe. Frazier is reportedly interviewing this week to be the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. After the team severed ties with Vic Fangio, who was later hired by the Philadelphia Eagles, the post is available.
Bills Mafia responded angrily to Frazier’s interview on X, the former name of Twitter. For the six years he was in Buffalo, Frazier oversaw a defense that was among the best in the league, but their postseason disaster is widely known. A fan of the Bills wrote, “As a fan, please hire him!!!” “Please please please take him,” a woman replied.
One Dolphins fan said, “Never a good thing when fans of your division rival are begging for you to sign him lmao,” in response to the majority of Bills fans’ harsh responses. Other Dolphins supporters were ecstatic, thinking Frazier would help them figure out how to stop Buffalo’s offense. Frazier would begin his 25th season as an NFL coach if hired.
Because of his ties to Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, Frazier might end up with the New York Giants, according to Art Stapleton of USA Today. Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post offered a comparable recommendation. But the Giants haven’t made an official request for an interview.
Releasing From Buffalo, According to Leslie Frazier, “Helped Him Grow”
Frazier indicated earlier this month that he has been getting ready for interviews in an interview with CBS Sports. Frazier didn’t technically take the year off, even if it sounded strange for someone who wanted to be a head coach to take a sabbatical.
He continued to be involved in the game by working as an analyst for 33rd Team and the NFL Network during the season. Really, Frazier said that getting out of Buffalo had grown him.
It has compelled me to extend my horizons somewhat, according to Frazier. Considering the league as a whole rather than just the team I play for and the opponent we’re facing off against. It has compelled me to view the league holistically and assisted me in being more involved in some of the strategies that lead to victory.
2010 saw Frazier take over as the Minnesota Vikings’ acting head coach, a role he kept until December 2013. Frazier wants to go back to the top position, but he is open to returning to the position of defensive coordinator.
“I’ll be a better head coach the second time around, without a doubt, because of everything that has happened over the last ten years and everything I’ve seen and experienced,” Frazier declared.
The 64-year-old claimed that his extensive background distinguishes him from other, probably younger, applicants. “All of those experiences, I believe, have made me a better head coach going into this second opportunity.”
Leslie Frazier Is Very Unlikely to Return to Buffalo
Though at first it was unclear if Frazier would go back to Orchard Park, it appears that door has closed. Following his participation in the NFL’s Coach Accelerator program, Frazier visited the Washington Commanders, the Giants, and the Green Bay Packers.
“Visiting different teams during the offseason is not something a coach with any intention of returning to his old role would do,” according to Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News. If the Bills knew Frazier would return in 2024, I don’t think they would be okay with him playing for other teams.
Frazier spoke candidly with SI’s Albert Breer about his unexpected departure from Buffalo, which occurred three months prior. “I feel good about it; I think my reasons for stepping away were the right ones,” he remarked.
Despite having uneven results in his first season as defensive coordinator for the Bills, head coach Sean McDermott is not leaving. Buffalo is currently conducting interviews with prospective defensive coordinators; but, Frazier’s name has not been mentioned.
