Liverpool’s next match is at St. James’ Park, and Jurgen Klopp has a lot of possible lineup adjustments.
The Reds defeated Newcastle twice last Newcastle matchup starting lineup for LFC: Konate out with injury? season, but eventually couldn’t overtake them, finishing in fourth place and losing out on the Champions League for the first time since 2016.
For the first home game of the season against Bournemouth, Klopp started with an unchanged lineup, but he might make the first adjustments this weekend.
As he spoke to the media prior to the trip, the manager informed us of a setback at the back that might force him to pick between two of his backup defenders.
Here’s Liverpool’s line up.

Before the match, the management informed us as follows:
Ibrahima Konate’s status is uncertain following a muscular injury.
After suffering an injury against Bournemouth, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be able to play.
For Aston Villa, Curtis Jones and Thiago will be available.
Alexis Mac Allister’s suspension was overturned, therefore he can resume playing.
Liverpool’s lineup vs Newcastle
Sunday, August 13, 2023 in London, England: Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté at Stamford Bridge during the FA Premier League game between Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC. A 1-1 draw was the result of the game.
Konate’s most recent injury complicates the manager’s defensive lineup choices, with Joel Matip or Joe Gomez anticipated to step in if the Frenchman is sidelined.
The Reds would start with the same back four that did so in the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid, if Matip is given the go-ahead.
However, matters are made easier for the midfield as a result of Liverpool’s successful appeal against Mac Allister’s suspension.
Cody Gakpo played behind a front three consisting of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Mohamed Salah in the same lineup for the first two games, but Wataru Endo’s arrival may allow Gakpo to move back to the forward line.
Although it’s a hard one this weekend, Liverpool might resemble this:
Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Endo, Mac Allister, and Szoboszlai; Salah, Gakpo, and Diaz
Konate hasn’t trained since Tuesday, but he hasn’t been totally ruled out and might yet play if he’s assessed well enough.
The Reds have a variety of alternatives up front as well, and Darwin Nunez, who would be making his first start of 2023–24, would be eager to repeat his goal from St. James’ Park from the previous campaign.
Instead, we might observe anything like this:
Konate will remain at center back, Nunez will lead the line in lieu of Jota through the middle, Diaz will stay out wide, and Salah will complete the front three.
